Home ground
Local Knowledge. Broader Perspective.
Perth’s western suburbs have been home my whole life. Atramentum has been based here since 2010, not by strategic design, but simply because this is where I live and work. After fifteen years in this market, that kind of familiarity makes a quiet but real difference.
That matters more than it might sound. The western suburbs have their own texture. The way income looks for a Cottesloe property investor is different from a resources worker on a two-and-two roster out of the Pilbara. The cashflow of a Claremont hospitality business is different from a Subiaco professional services firm. The tax profile of a growing Nedlands family business is different from a sole trader in the CBD.
Before Atramentum, I worked in Perth, spent time in the Pilbara and the UK, and worked alongside organisations operating nationally and across the US, India and UK. That broader experience, seeing how different markets work, how larger organisations are structured, and what good advice looks like at that level, is what informs the local work we do here. Local knowledge, broader perspective.
Atramentum isn’t a franchise or a national firm with a Perth branch. It’s a practice built here, for this community, by someone who came back and stayed.
“I didn’t choose the western suburbs to build a practice. I built a practice where I already was.”

Western Australia is different.
Our economy is shaped by resources, construction, property, hospitality, tourism and family-owned businesses in ways that don’t always align with the eastern states. A Perth business owner needs advice that reflects local conditions, not generic templates developed hundreds or thousands of kilometres away.
Growing up and living in Perth’s western suburbs has given me a deep understanding of the people, businesses and industries that make Western Australia unique. From family businesses and professional services firms to hospitality operators, property investors and growing SMEs, many of the challenges faced by local business owners aren’t found anywhere else in Australia.
This local knowledge allows us to provide practical advice that reflects the environment our clients actually operate in.
WA Resources & FIFO Sectors
Western Australia’s resources sector creates income structures and tax situations that national templates weren’t built for. From FIFO allowances and site allowances to remote area benefits, zone offsets, and the income variability that comes with roster-based work, we speak this language fluently.
Perth Hospitality & Tourism
Hospitality has been a core part of our practice from day one. We understand the thin margins, seasonal cashflow, staffing complexity and GST nuances that come with running a venue, accommodation business or tourism operation in WA, from Fremantle to the Swan Valley to Margaret River.
Property Investment & Development
Perth’s property market has its own rhythm and the ATO knows it. We work with investors and developers across the metro area on negative gearing strategy, depreciation schedules, CGT planning and structuring advice for those building portfolios in the local market.
Family Business & Succession
Family business succession and intergenerational transitions are some of the most complex and personal engagements in our work. We understand the dynamics, the competing interests, and the tax and structuring considerations that come with transitioning a WA family business to the next generation.
WA Regulatory Conditions
State payroll tax thresholds, WorkCover WA, WA-specific grants and concessions, and the realities of operating and growing a business in this state. We keep across the local regulatory environment so the advice you receive reflects where you actually are, not a national average.
Growing WA Businesses
From sole traders starting out to SMEs scaling up, we understand what growth looks like in the WA market, the capital constraints, the labour market, the state economic cycles, and the decisions that separate businesses that survive from those that build lasting value.
